“Time to decorate the Christmas tree”

With the help of two eTwinning projects: “Time to decorate the Christmas tree” and “Christmas cards 2018”, the festivities at our school were extended well beyond the arrival of The Three Kings. Due to the over-abundance of mail and packages at the post office, the packages from various European countries continued to be delivered well in to the month of January. Due to their ability to enrol both the youngest students and the ones at the gymnasiums, projects coinciding with the calendar holidays are the best liked and regarded within the eTwinning community. We all know that receiving a real letter, no, not that e-mail kind, is no simple task. Due to the enrolment of the youngest members of Klaipeda Litorina School to the aforementioned projects, there was a lot of joy and laughter involved following the receipt of Christmas ornaments and Christmas cards from their peers. The educators around the world did not stop there and actually used the gathered enthusiasm and momentum of the children in order to incorporate the activities of the project in to the curriculum of native and English language, information technology, arts, technology, geography, moral education and religion classes.

By decorating the Christmas trees and making Christmas cards, the participants of the project realised that they are able to make festivities with their own hands, that it is really not that hard to lower the instinct of consumerism and that bringing things back to life for a second go around is really fun and brings a lot of joy.

Happy Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. My pupils are already hard at work making cards and souvenirs themselves and are not at all interested in the trivial goods offered at the shopping centres in making of which not only nature resources but human resources are exploited as well. Dviejų eTwinning projektų – „Laikas puošti eglutes“ ir „Kalėdiniai atvirukai 2018“ – dėka šventės mūsų mokykloje tęsėsi ir po Trijų karalių, nes siuntiniai iš įvairių Europos šalių dėl itin didelio pašto užimtumo ėjo iki pat sausio vidurio. Kalendorinių švenčių projektai eTwinning bendruomenėje yra vieni mėgstamiausių, kadangi juose gali dalyvauti ir patys mažiausieji, ir gimnazistai. Juk gauti tikrą, ne elektroninį, laišką šias laikais ne kiekvienam pavyksta. Šį kartą projektuose dalyvavo mažieji Litorinos mokyklos bendruomenės nariai, todėl bendraamžių atsiųsti eglutės žaisliukai, vaikiški atvirukai juos labai džiugino. Pasinaudoję vaikų entuziazmu visų šalių pedagogai pasistengė projekto veiklas įtraukti į ugdymo turinį: gimtosios ir anglų kalbos, informacinių technologijų, dailės, technologijų, geografijos, dorinio ugdymo, tikybos pamokas.

Puošdami eglutes, gamindami atvirukus projekto dalyviai suprato, kad šventę galima susikurti savo rankomis, kad visai nesunku sumažinti vartotojiškumą ir labai smagu suteikti daiktams antrą gyvenimą.

Artėja Valentino diena. Mano mokiniai sveikinimus ir suvenyrus jau gamina patys ir nesigundo prekybos centrus užvertusiais niekučiais, kurių pagaminimui ne tik eikvojami Žemės ištekliai, bet ir išnaudojami žmonės. O kaip šią raudonų širdelių dieną pasitiksite jūs?

Due to the fact that children had to participate in two different Christmas projects simultaneously, we had to gather a rather large force for the implementation of the following eTwinning projects this year: “Time to decorate the Christmas tree”, “Christmas Cards 2018”.

The first of the two aforementioned projects carried a very important mission: to present the ancient secrets of our countries on how to make Christmas ornaments to other project partners. Our team members taught our friends on how to make Christmas ornaments using straws.

Project participants from Greece, Moldova, Romania, Serbia and Ukraine held their own against the Lithuanian team by sharing their country traditions.

During the making of the Christmas ornaments, children not only developed their creative skills but were also taught on how to reduce consumption. I believe that children will decorate their Christmas trees with their crafts in the future as well. The said crafts outshine the plastic baubles and garlands with their warmth, care towards their planet and, of course, their originality. You cannot buy such ornaments at the supermarket.

Project “Christmas Cards 2018” enrolled children into large-scale workshops. This was especially appreciated by other teachers because the present generation communicating using mobile devices have long stopped writing letters and greetings. The idea to write a Christmas greeting to a stranger from other European countries encouraged children to make their Christmas cards as beautiful as possible by carefully curling the greetings, placing them neatly in envelopes and sealing said envelopes.

The time for the most entertaining project stage is upon us: waiting for packages with Christmas ornaments and cards sent to us from our new-made friends!

Šiemet eTwinning projektų įgyvendinimui buvo suburtos labai didelės pajėgos, kadangi vienu metu vaikams teko dalyvauti dviejuose Kalėdoms skirtuose projektuose: „Laikas puošti eglutę“ ir „Kalėdiniai atvirukai 2018“.

Pirmasis projektas vykdė ypatingą misiją – pristatė projekto partneriams senąsias savo šalies eglutės žaisliukų gaminimo paslaptis. Mūsų komanda mokė draugus pasigaminti šiaudinius eglutės žaisliukus.

Lietuviams nenusileido projekto dalyviai iš Graikijos, Moldavijos, Rumunijos, Serbijos ir Ukrainos, pasidalinę savo šalių tradicijomis. Gamindami žaisliukus visų šalių vaikai ne tik lavino(si) kūrybiškumą, bet ir mokėsi sumažinti vartojimą. Manau, kad ir ateityje vaikai puoš Kalėdų eglutes savo darbeliais, kurie nuo plastikinių bumbulų ir girliandų skiriasi įdėta šiluma, rūpesčiu savo planeta ir, žinoma, originalumu, nes tokių eglutės puošmenų nenusipirksi jokioje parduotuvėje.

Projektas „Kalėdiniai atvirukai 2018“ įtraukė vaikus į didžiules kūrybines dirbtuves. Tai ypač džiugino mokytojus, kadangi mobiliais įrenginiais bendraujanti dabartinė karta seniai neberašo laiškų ir sveikinimų. Idėja parašyti kalėdinį sveikinimą nepažįstamiems draugams iš kitų Europos šalių įkvėpė vaikus sukurti kuo gražesnius atvirukus, kruopščiai juose išraityti sveikinimo žodžius, tvarkingai sudėti į vokus ir užklijuoti adresus.

Dabar atėjo pats įdomiausias projektų etapas – siuntinių su žaisliukais ir laiškų su atvirukais iš naujų draugų laukimas!
